Re: [LUG] 64 bit

Ahem. Atoms aren't 64-bit!
Sorry about the top posts, Android hates lists!

You'd be hard pushed to find a PC with a brand new up to date CPU that wasn't 64-Bit capable. ÂI know AMD CPUs have been 64-Bit now for ages (the early Socket 754 Semprons were 32-Bit only) and Intel have been 64-Bit too for a long while on most of the range (not sure about the early Atoms, maybe someone could comment?).

I'd be surprised now if you went into a shop and bought a system that wasn't 64-Bit capable (even the single core 2.2Ghz Celeron M 900 Âis 64-Bit capable now.

What you're more likely to find is CPUs that don't support virtualisation extensions (which speeds up things like VMWare and Virtual Box) such as AMD-V or Intel-VT. ÂMost AMD chips support AMD-V but there's a fair few Intel chips out there which don't support Intel-VT.
