And if someone does use your Wi-Fi access point to download something
dodgy and it's traced back to your IP address/home, etc. then how are
you going to be able to prove innocence? Even when you are, how much
inconvenience is it going to cause? You'll have all your computers
confiscated, you'll be taken away, jailed, then even when you're
proven innocent, the neighbours will start to talk, rumours will
spread and so on.
Yep, pretty much what I said. At least if the wireless is locked down
*somehow* if there are others open the secured one will be left alone.

Completely agree with both, but when the hardware isn't playing ball
with the most secure methods and you have already spent a few hours
fighting it, at some point you have to fall back to "good enough". WEP
with MAC filtering on the router should be "good enough", I am not a
hacker or network specialist though. Someone determined is going to get
in regardless of what you do.

Neil, anytime you would like a hand with a computer or something I can
pop around on occasion as I'm just a couple miles away and often bored,
my hourly rate is a cup of tea. :]

With networking security I fall back on the old story of the two guys running away from a lion. One stops to put on his trainers. The other says 'You think that will help you beat the lion?' The guy looks up and says 'Nope, I just have to beat you....'

Security just has to be tough enough for the hacker to look elsewhere for a softer target.
