A friend of mine is coming, afaik. Currently a Windows gamer so not entirely likely to be looking to switch completely, but he is interested after seeing various videos of Ubuntu and Compiz in use about running it dual boot. I will be taking 3 or 4 Ubuntu 10.04 cd's, more if requested. I will also have the image file if anyone wants that, anything else? Thanks John, looking forward to seeing you. I have confirmed the booking for tomorrow, OK. I personally won't be moving to Lucid. I feel that Ubuntu etc have gone a bit OTT for me. I do need to upgrade soon so I am considering Mint v 9 when it comes out, but I will wait for the Xfce version.Debian? :) Alas, I have made arrangements to visit the folks this weekend so I shall not be in attendance. Grant.I'll be at the Paignton meeting, I do wonder if we can link up via webcam (Skype, Ekiga etc) so we can wave to each other? RobNot sure, I would perhaps suggest we start by linking via irc, then try a webcam link up, at least that way we can talk each other through any issues, that crop up with ekiga. Does anyone have mobile internet, o are you going to pay for net access while up there.
Well that's up to the guys up in Holsworthy if they want to chip in for internet access (might be of use to them for other things maybe).
I have Skype on my laptop and it works, I know it's not free, but I'm thinking that if a couple of us have laptops maybe we can setup a Skype link and then look at Ekgia on another laptop?
best way to do that would be to pay then have a donations box out of which you take the money6 for the site wifi access then i guess let the list know how much was raised e.g £5 was raised out of which £5 was taken out to cover cost of wifi at the holsworthly venue. (IIRC the hotel) Is that the right way to go about this.?
Does it have to come out of donated funds? If five people turn up it's a quid each for internet access for the afternoon (possibly of use if anyone is going to be doing installs on laptops or troubleshooting for instance) and if more people turn up, well it works out cheaper.
I'd advise against using mobile broadband unless you have a good allowance (video conferencing eats the allowance).
