You make that sound scary, all it's doing is adding a slightly more up to date version of <car-salesman-voice> genuine windows advantage </car-salesman-voice> that we can even opt out of, and that's been in use for years. This news = meh.

It seems a new patch for windows 7 will scan for things such as
activation work arounds etc,

even better reason for us as a lug to stop stalling and step up our
efforts further and push the free software advantage,
