Re: [LUG] Open source? What's that?

Quoting Terry Hill <telbonic@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>:

I'm open to suggestions on what else I can do for the cause as an
individual, or what as a group we can do. At the moment it seems there are
a few of us who are fairly active in the Torbay area, but I don't remember
seeing anything recently about anything else in other areas of Devon or
Cornwall (although saying that, I was cc'd into an e-mail where Simon was
asking one of the guys at I believe Exmouth Community College about having a
LUG meeting there).

I think you and the rest of this LUG do a fantastic job.

Up here in North Devon we're a bit thin on the ground. I did try to get a
few of us to meet in weatherspoons once, but I was the only one who made it
and I started to feel like billy no mates in the end :D

Yep, that can be a problem I guess. I presume too that some of you are more spread out up there.

If there are enough of us in the Barnstaple area I'm sure it would be
possible to get Petroc (North Devon College) in on the act, although none of
the tutors I've spoken to in conversation about Linux had even heard of it,
although Open Office does seem to be growing in popularity.

That sounds good, maybe you could sneak in and put up a LUG poster.

I'm going to try and get one up where I'm working at the moment, it's in Exeter but it might get some interest (especially since some of the engineering bods have used Sun and SGI workstations) so there may at least be some people who are aware of Unix and Linux.
