Re: [LUG] Spreading the Linux gospel

Quoting Paul Sutton <zleap@xxxxxxxxx>:

Perhaps you need to simply focus on 1 or 2 distros or just on ubuntu,
however mint (based on ubuntu) does have content filtering so would
perhaps be good for people with children.

Yep, Ubuntu Christian Edition I believe comes with filtering provided by Dansguardian. Personally I do filtering on the server, means I don't have to worry about it then and I can apply the filtering to the PS3 and Wii browsers as well as the Windows machines.

again you have a choice, why would an adult want a desktop with
filtering, it adds extra bloat, windows comes with family centre (or
whatever its called) whihc is fine, but if you don't need it, it
probably going to get in the way.

Actually the parental controls are an extra addon for Windows, they are part of Windows Live and not installed by default with the OS.

Not sure about MacOS, I remember from the days of System 7 there was a package which could be installed which gave the user a choice of a few applications and not much else, I can't remember the name of it or if it was included with the default OS install, and I can't comment on OS X, I haven't really looked into it much.
