Didn't doom use IPX as the networking protocol,  I had a program called
doom connector once, it allowed upto 32 players online :)

there is also doom legacy, which gives fog, and ability to look up /
down, adds a little more life to the game,      


Not sure how to get stuff playing over ltsp,
