It's all about marketing, information, etc, if anything this is a good
incentive for us as a linux user group to get together and orgaise how
we are going to combat all of this.

Regarding insurance asking around on other groups they don't seem to
bother with that, a venue may have cover.

if we do need insurance, then we need to look in to sponsorship,

what is needed is to raise awareness of the alternatives, target say
people who have had windows 7 starter installed and are dis-appointed,
and perhaps get to them before someone else does with regard to
alternatives, most companies will probably install and charge them for
a different version of windows. clearly we need to go one better.

"Perhaps something like this ina paper, got a new netbook, using
windows 7 starter, frustrated by lack of features, consider the
alternatives, free software, come along to a linux user group meeting
to find out more. No obligation, just bring you and an open mind. "

We also need to put aside our allegiances (ducks) to particular
distributions at the end of the day, debian, ubuntu, suse, slackware etc
all have Linux under the hood. Most users just want something that
works, and that will fill their needs, identify their needs and suggest
something, if they play games ok dual boot, if all they want is
e-mail, web browsing and office, then I am sure any Linux distribution
will fill that requirement.
