There is that. Printers and scanners are extra too and I use them all just as often. Personally I only use dvd drives to install a new OS. I just took out the harddrive, plugged it into a desktop and installed that way. Admittedly I only had to do that because my USB flash memory was broken, otherwise I'd have used unetbootin to make a liveusb thingy. All in all, it's not a handicap for me. If you watch alot of DVDs or something obviously that changes things.

Surely the point of a netbook is ease of portability? Don't see many people printing on the tube! But a DVD player should easily fit into the other pocket and is usable on other machines so the cost is 'spreadable' and the prices will drop to near nothing soon - you can get ones with screens for £40 - not much more than an MS license. Then with the 2048*1500 stereo specs the only thing missing would be proper subwoofer so one can listen to a bit of decent Bach organ work on the move...
