hi does anyone one have an AS400 or know of an AS400 emulator that can run on windows or linux? (have got a copy of AIX unix and want to play with it!!!)

Hi Ed,

AIX is IBM's Unix-like operating system - it runs on the PowerPC archritecture - I don't think it's been ported to anything else.

The AS400 is IBM's minframe type computer - using their partitioning system, it is possible to run other operating systems on the AS400 - such as Linux, AIX, etc. (at the same time as it's native OS), but I really don't know if there is an AS400 emulator for Linux. (And I suspect if there was, it would be a bit slow as the underlying CPU & architecture is rather specialised!)

Maybe better off looking (ebay?) for an old RS6000 if you want to run AIX.
