[LUG] OT: USB Hubs

A couple of weeks ago I bought an Acer , all singing and dancing, Aspire
7720 "laptop" which, when running PCLinuxOS, together with a P300 Cyrix IPcop
box and router/firewall (and PSU for a BT phone and charger) drew 90-92
watts.

Yesterday, I replaced the freebie 4 port non-powered Sweex USB hub that I was
using with an <Advent> 1amp powered, 4 port one and found that the reading on
the meter has now dropped to a steady 49 watts.

Any suggestions as to why? Both measurements were taken with just a mouse
connected via the hubs. Both printer and scanner were/are also connected via
the hubs but powered off.
