I've found a rather nice site http://www.folkinfo.org/ and have volunteered to try and write a php app to convert abc to MusicXML - as its the only 'recognised' 'open' standard for western music I'm aware of. As the programmers amongst you may be aware this will involve taking music down to its fundamental particles and in a state that would make it ideal for pattern matching/correlation etc for copyright analysis amongst other things. This is all realtively straightforward but as one of my mantras is 'the better the foundations the higher the building can go' has anyone got any thoughts on this as better now than when I'm too far down the line to be bothered to refactor me fundamentals.
