I know very little about this piece of software, although I do have a
satellite attached to my pc. What error message does it come up with
when you run it in a console and it crashes?

Is there a forum at the site you mention. That might be more helpful
than here. Also there are forums at linuxtv that might help.

I put "humax programming linux" into google and got a couple of pages of
what might be good info.
