It should be noted that learning to use an IDE is as big an investment in time
and energy as learning a programming language. I come from VS.NET, which is
probably THE best programming environment there is and its amazingly
frustrating and counterproductive to not be able to do things in a click
anymore as I try and withdraw from the C# sofa with coffee at 11 etc.
Now that Netbeans 6.5 will allow me to do 'proper' debugging of PHP I'm going
to invest some real time in re-learning it - I used if for some non-weapons
grade* Java a few years ago and it was OK but nowhere near VS.NET.
There is an early access Python plugin for NetBeans
http://www.netbeans.org/features/python/index.html
which has jython as well.
If it comes close then I will be able to work relatively easily in several
different languages - C,C++,Javascript/AJAX,Ruby, oh and Java!

*just to add you can write weapons-grade code in asp if you know what your
doing - MS didnt encourage that on the grounds of 'cant sell you the next
upgrade if you find out the one you've got does it already!
