Re: [LUG] Ubuntu in the 'real' world

Personally, I would have suggested Mint to Gary which I love but, that didn't get my wireless working either - that took Tom Brough at the barbecue (thanks Tom !). I don't have an IPOD so, cannot comment on those problems. Ubuntu works fine with my MP3 player.

I guess that when you have used Linux for a bit, you don't necessarily expect everything to work first time. However, what you end up with is almost always worth the small amount of effort necessary to get everything working the way that you want it to, especially if it is someone else's effort - (-:)

I agree some valid points. It's a shame that if he didn't like the look
of xandros he didn't just activate the advanced desktop feature which
would have enabled him to use kde and a start menu like he was used to.

Oops, hang on. that requires knowledge of how to do it.  Oh well.

just remembered that if the Cd he got had mandrake and ubuntu on it it
may well have been the linux format edition that had a full article on
explaining how to set up kde fairly easily.
