But millimetres are smaller than 16ths of an inch. And, for that matter,
if you need greater accuracy in temperature, use fractions of a degree.

Centimetres are smaller than feet and yards, millilitres are smaller
than pints, and so on, and so forth. And I certainly can't imagine
anybody sane trying to measure anything in nanoinches, but nanometres
are regularly used.
