Starting digital photograph processing with GNU/Linux


Precondition
------------
Importing the image into a computer running Linux from a digital camera, 
flatbed or film scanner


Briefly
-------
Scanning prints and slides under Linux
Ways of organising collections of images
The resolution of images on screen and paper
Adjusting Levels, Contrast, Colour, Hue & Saturation
The tools in the Toolbox



In more detail
--------------
Cropping and straightening
Cloning out unwanted pedestrians, wires, etc
The various Selection Tools including the Quick Mask for precise selections
Feathering selections
The key tools in the filters menu:
     *  Sharpening using the un-sharp mask
     *  Creating Monochrome images from colour using several techniques
     *  handling converging verticals
     *  Re-sizing the image and canvas for final output
     *  Creating borders, drop shadows and other effects around an image
     *  Printing images


Gimp doesn't have the Photoshop systems for
     *  The Healing Tool and the Patch Tool to remove blemishes
     *  Dust & Scratches

Are they available as plugins though?
