I assume that your system is using dhcp to get an ip address from the router?

What does /etc/resolv.conf contain is it the address of the router as
a dns server?

I assume that the problem here lies with the dlink router that its not
either providing a correct dns server address when it gives out
addresses via dhcp or that its not correctly acting as a dns proxy.

Either log in to the router and check the settings there or just
change your system to a static IP address. If your router is for
example on 192.168.0.1 set your system to 192.168.0.2 and also set the
DNS server as well. Should be able to do all this through the tools
included with mandrake, otherwise you will need to edit the network
interface file and i forget where this is on mandrake something like
/etc/sys-conf/network/if-eth0 ???
