FUSE is the kernel userspace file system module. sshfs is a way of mounting files using FUSE from any server which can accept ssh connections. Few things I'm missing.... My Sarge box has fuse-source. My SID boxes "just work" (apt-get install sshfs, and I'm away) My "Etch" box, has neither "fuse-source" package (for kernel module) or "/dev/fuse". Somehow I doubt I'm suppose to compile a customer kernel, what do other Etch users have installed to get FUSE working? i.e. which kernel volume, or module packages. Or did I break something previously? (I had it working when this box ran Sarge - honest). When I braved a mount of a users $HOME under FUSE (in Sid), I get trouble with the ".ICEauthority" file locking as they use hard links. And GNOME refuses to start with descriptive error. Advice online suggests I edit "/etc/gdm/gdm.conf" to move the .ICEauthority file else where (/tmp is probably fine for this box, as it is a single user PC effectively). But after this, and restarting GDM, GNOME login fails with the same descriptive error write .ICEauthority to $HOME instead of the relevant directory specified in the gdm.conf file. What is the correct way to relocate .ICEauthority? Has anyone successfully mounted $HOME under sshfs (and used X/GNOME on top)? Will OpenOffice2 work properly with sshfs mounted files and folders? Simon, trying to lose NFS from his home network, and reduce his explicit use of ssh on the work network. -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG http://mailman.dclug.org.uk/listinfo/list FAQ: http://www.dcglug.org.uk/linux_adm/list-faq.html
