nvidia just works (tm) and 1 driver fits all (non-ancient) cards.

i've had trouble with the intel 915 under linux. couldn't get dri
working so the graphics were too slow to play videos then when it did
work open gl had some bizzare offset problem so most of it was off the
screen. the driver i downloaded from intel's website didn't help.
google earth was pretty unusable in both cases.

never used an ati card with linux so i can't comment any more than google.

Evidently you've never noticed the Shift key on your keyboard either. Nevertheless, ATi support on Linux is adequate, although the drivers continue to be as bad as they are on Windows (and unfortunately, there are no Omega drivers for Linux.) I can't comment on Intel, since I tend to eschew underpowered integrated cards (I'd love to have one to get the free driver shizz, but unfortunately I need more than a single MFLOPS of GPU power.)
