I think it would be fair to say that the default behaviour of GNOME on 
almost all distros is more like the MacOS interface, whereas the default 
behaviour of KDE on almost all distros is more like the Windows 
interface. I have never bothered to install either from source, so I 
can't say what the default behaviour of each Desktop Environment is 
outside of what comes with various distros.
