You can try "info groff" or kick Neil, if you really need it as plain text, but I'm not sure there is a direct representation in ascii of most manual pages, as aside from highlighting words, they also use underlining and other things that don't map well to plain old ascii. i.e. Try "nroff" without "-man" and see what else messes up.
