Indeed it was. Fast, slick, small footprint, not as pretty as modern
browsers, but aren't you supposed to be looking at the 'page content'
not marvelling at the design of the browser? That's like seeing the
Mona Lisa and commenting 'nice frame'!

I had many customers who deliberately ignored IE in favour of
installing the older NN3 because it was stable quick and it DIDN'T run
every bit of malicious code under the sun for a change.

Just how mainstream would IE be if consumers had a real choice, by
which I mean a PC supplied without a browser installed but there were
Firefox and IE CDs available at the checkout?

Methinks less than it is.

IE is only mainstream because it's preloaded on all Windows PCs.

BTW, mainstream: Definition found 5 seconds after entering the search
into Google (and that's only because it was bottom of the list)

Mainstream is, generally, the common current of thought. It is a term
most often applied in the arts (i.e., music, literature, and
performance). This includes: * something that is not out of the
ordinary or unusual;* something that is familiar to the masses;*
something that belongs to an identifiable genre, such as detective
fiction, horror, fantasy, or science fiction.

Kind regards,

Julian
