My Dad worked for them through all the changes - 33 years as a telephone installation engineer. he doesn't like them much either ;)This is historical really. I remember the days before BT when all communications were run by the GPO (General Post Office).
Ummm... ooooo... let me guess... Mickey Mouse.... Mickey shaft... Micro shaft.... Ohh I know....Since then I have looked upon BT as the second greediest company in the world (can you guess who is number one?).
BTW did you read that a US judge refused their action against Novell? Yessss! :)
BT still play the market as if they're the only player. Sadly with DSL (unless you're in an ntl: area, which I know you're not Neil), whether you want to or not, your ISP has to deal with BT. When I worked in Tech we had customers call in furious because they had called BT and asked for ADSL on their lines. They were told (when they said BT would be their ISP) "24 hours". When they rang again and said any other ISP they were told "10 days".Since I hate greedy companies I avoid BT wherever possible.
Hopefully that kind of practise has been stamped on in the last couple of years since I left. I'm not holding my breath though.
