mod_rewrite has some cool voodoo here as well.

Just end the trip through the rewrite with a "P" and mod_rewrite and
mod_proxy co-operate to make the relevant voodoo happen to proxy the
content.

This is how some of the Plone sites use Apache as an accelerator for
static content like images. Move image responses from Plone like slow to
Apache like speed doing this.

Of course mod_rewrite maybe too complex for the case in hand, but worth
knowing about.

Do note with mod_proxy that it will act as a proxy, but not a cache, if
permissions are wrong on the directory you nominate for the cache. Of
course if you read the Apache error log this is "obvious".
