[LUG] really complex installation of suse 9.3

Hi,
I now have a rather odd and annoying problem. It all started when I was making spare partitions in mandriva so I could build my own distro. It gave me errors that said I needed to insert my rescue disk and reinstall my boot loader. I tried everything I could but ended up with a lot of kernel panics.
So I gave up and spoke to James (he's on the list if you want to flame him) and he said he would give me a copy of suse 9.3 but he only had the 64bit version. He downloaded (my router was destroyed so I had no Internet for a while) a 32bit and tried and failed to put it on DVD. In the end I gave him my server's hard disk and he extracted suse onto that. Now if i pug my servers hard disk into my desktop i should be able to use a boot CD to install it from the source on the hard disk. I ended up with the problem that I selected the source directory then it just jumped back a few steps. and wouldn't go any further. I spoke again to James who said it could be a problem with the type of partitions on my FC3 server so i copied the source onto my desktop hard disk home partition (I was going to save that any way along with my windoze partition). Now when try to install I get to select the source Dir it works i get into yast. Now I get an error that parted cannot work with hda i found this when using a live disk after re-partitioning my HD (my desktop HD) and it warns me that I may continue but to be careful. I do all the packages and other config then click continue. I get told that I may continue but it will in effect wipe my entire hard disk. I need to keep some files on this box. From what I see i need to take my web site off my server and put it my desktop. Install suse (as i can't install from FC3) onto my server move back the website, the contents of my home directory and the sources. Then install suse onto my desktop. Then move back my home dir. then install xen on my desktop now install win XP (I need it for work) under xen. Then problem solved. It seems rather long winded any ideas on how to shorten it etc. Please no comments like "you should just use distro x" I want to stick with something I have used before (I installed it at school).
Thanks
