I am baffled by the apparent popularity of Sudoku, which seems to be sweeping the country or at least some of the press. If you complete a crossword by Araucaria what you have is a work of art but completing a sudoku puzzle just gets you a block of numbers. How can something so mechanical be thought worth the effort? I have written a program to solve sudoku puzzles and I can post it if anyone is interested.
