Re: [LUG] OT: Industrial Placement

As you are on a university course you should be eligible for a exchage visa J1 for the USA, If you look up the New york Linux user group (which I am also a subscriber too), they have lots of linux basied job listings,

http://jobs.nylug.org/

If you contact the group perhaps they can help, they have an irc channel
irc.freenode.net #nylug

I know there are a few exchange programs that sponsor visas so try BUNAC etc, details should be available from your university

Good Luck

Paul

I know of a 9 month industrial placement in Spain that involves some Linux work. From what I gather about placements though, the work is probably limited to making coffee. They haven't got back to me since I e-mailed 3 weeks ago, but I can try and dig out the details if you're interested.

There were some on the IAESTE list, but I think it's too late to apply. Which seems to be the situation everywhere. If your placement is part of a degree you should see if your university is a member of any organisations like IAESTE which arrange more specialist placements.

The situation at Plymouth University is pretty bad; Most of the "placement opportunities" seem little more than Google'd and totally unappealing unless you're a CSN student that wants to be locked in a cage programming all day. Which isn't so good for me and my fellow ITA and MPT cohorts. ;)
