I got stuck on X on a new Debian (Sarge) install.
I didn't need it for the main purpose, so I went ahead, but felt irritated.
Yesterday I got it sorted out.
Purely a matter of knowing what packages are required for X, and although it
may seem to be clear I count myself reasonably good at understanding and
finding out things, and it was not clear to me.

Not a criticism, just an area of work to address sometime, and not suitable
for me to do at this stage.
