Not that regrettable - whilst JetDB has caught up a lot, all those
multiuser databases working using iffy file locking - urgh....

What bindings does libgnomedb2 come with yet - are any of these
useable for the end user - as it seems to be where the free software
push for database bound controls is.

Most Access developers never looked back once they tried VB, so I
don't think a proper development environment should scare people
off, for as long as it is easy enough to do.
