Nobody seems to have mentioned mdbtools, so I'll do it to get this
included in list archives. Using mdbtools, it is possible to pull out
the nasty horrible broken Microsoft crud and convert it in to something
readable that can be shoved in to a Free database server.

While this is not all singing and dancing and doesn't simply run your
existing databases for you, it does allow you to move forward. I too
feel that GNU/Linux lacks a decent equivalent to Paradox (or PAL -
remember that? Anyone else here ever write long queries and reports
using PAL?) but the trouble is that webby frontends have become popular
ways of doing interfacing - LAMP is the current flavour of the month.

May you be forever freed from the evil[0]s of Microsoft Access!

Cheers,

Jon.
