Just some more thoughts,
When assigning static IP's, use something well out of the way of the DHCP
server eg 192.168.1.99.
Give the machines a different name for each OS eg natalie1/natalie2.
Have you defined a domain name for your Linux setups? Windows dosen't care.
I.e. 192.168.1.0 is your network
"somename" is the domain name of your network.
Perhaps your ISP has a list/newsgroup that could help with your routing/DNS
problems?
