I got a IPC topnote F a few years ago, from Staples, not sure on cost, but I think future models should work ok, It works great, even the modem works i think, not that I need it cos I got adsl. But yeah its fine. I had the same problem with XP, my modem drivers did not install, it could not find them, so i had to download some from my other computer, burn on to cd and hope they worked. Needless to say I upgraded the whole lot to Linux, and installed with very little hassle, 1 reboot and no licence / cd / activation nonsense to struggle with, esp when they put the cd key on the under side of the computer and i had to flip it over to read it, flip back over to type, and even that took a few attempts, Goog luck with the people at Currys, The following link may prove helpful, I think Linux is ok with most laptops, http://www.linux-laptop.net/ sorry i can't help further. Wi th modems you got to watch out for winmodems, even though some of the issues with these seem to be solved now. Paul
If I can blag a refund can anyone recommend a laptop for unde £800 with Linux compatible modem & soundcard? Comment appreciated. Trevor Sansom
