I want to do a business focused meeting, where we deliberately
target local business people (IT directors?) as attendees, in
the spring.

The focus I was thinking of would be free software on embedded
or low admin systems.

Firewalls, file servers, mail servers, database servers, web
servers, proxies etc. 

Maybe also get some "gadget" sellers in like Tivo VCR, Linux
based PDA's etc.

I'd be looking for people who currently resell such devices in
the South West, and maybe pull in the vendors to do
demonstrations.


I was thinking of supplementing the demo's with a few talks -
maybe;

       What is free software - and issues around embedding it?

       How to 'bed your own Penguin? 
       (we'll probably won't title it like that in the literature).


I'd almost certainly opt for Exeter area, unless a stunning
venue presented itself.

Not sure if this is something LUG members will want to get into,
or whether I should do it entirely as a business venture,
amongst interested local businesses.

Where I find promising such devices without a local reseller -
well that is an opportunity if you ask me!

I'd probably ask that vendors/reseller only exhibit one product
of each type between them, i.e. one firewall, one file server,
one mail system. I think if someone takes the trouble to present
or demo a product a clear floor for the event is only fair,
although promotional literature on competing products would be
welcomed.

Hardest thing is getting the right people into such event, so
e-mail me ideas on that.
