Hi,

I'm a new member and also newbie to Linux. I've finally managed to install
Red Hat 7.3 on my laptop and am currently experiencing the joys of trying
to get the winmodem to work...

Here are the steps I took to get two winmodems to work with Linux:

http://www.winmodems.org provides the link to scanmodem

http://www.linmodems.org/

scanmodem
http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/

The scanmodem output may offer a direct link to a ftp site to download a
tar.gz or even an rpm.

In case of problems:
Linmodem HOWTO
http://walbran.org/sean/linux/linmodem-howto.html

Check the results of lspci in the Database:
http://www.yourvote.com/pci/

to get the Vendor ID then put that into google/linux
http://www.google.co.uk/linux
(The Vendor ID is NOT anything to do with the name of the modem as it might
appear in Windows etc. - it's the ID of the chipset you need.)

If unsuccessful, join the mailing list (with the output of the scanmodem
script) at discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
