[LUG] Any idea what this means

I am using kmail under suse 8 and when I try and recieve mail I get this 
error,

Login via SASL (PLAIN) failed. The server may not support PLAIN, or the 
password may be wrong.
The server said: "Invalid command, try one of: USER name, PASS string, APOP 
name digest, QUIT"
