Eek - I trust this was something you did and not a "feature".


we warned the client every week to the extent that it felt awkward saying the same thing again and again. i don't think they believed us fully about how crucial disk space was - not until afterwards anyway. unfortunately we were writing functional code at the time and monitoring code was further down the list.

the monitoring code we did write sends text messages to the managers phones every 6 minutes if the space goes below a soft limit - and shuts down the system if it goes below a hard limit. win2k and SQL server comes with its own software - but this sends emails or pager messages. we find text messages far more efficient at annoying people into action.



Oracle for their sins do give you the feeling they care about your data as much if not more than you do.



yeah - i was disapointed that SQL server did not handle this situation very well - especially since the data was on a separate partition.
