Re: [LUG] Fwd: Linux @ School - Are we serious?

hi adrian

nice to read it is not just me!!!

SBS is different enough that you are only safe with an SBS specialist. I can put you in touch with several cixen who do it if you want...

i'll pass it on but boss is reluntant to spend more money. and i'm hoping to put linux solutions in. as i've said - i have at home a firewall/gateway/proxy server using a 56k modem and this is fully controllable by any user via a VNC session.

the good news is that it looks like we are moving office and hopefully at the new one we will have ADSL linked to linux kit.

SQL server 2000
working - (thank god - otherwise we wouldn't be)

Are you stuck on that database?

not after boss found out cost of SQL to use behind websites (2k) - postgres is being tested!

to be fair - the only disapointment we've had with SQL server is when a clients server ran out of disk space and the DB became corrupted. we have put in monitoring code since.

......and our client's main servers with approx 11k of MS software on
them just crash/reboot every couple of weeks

Are they not rebooted every Friday like many companies' ones? Sad, isn't it.

quite rightly their MS engineer would rather find the cause (brave man!) but he has said that this is the most common solution in the field.
