[LUG] Linux expos in the South West.

Hi

I got a flyer sent to me from Suse (or someone) relating to the Linux expo
in London, I can't attend but wrote back to
info at suse.com to ask if we could have one in the South West as there is a
potential market here. I made some points.

1. Businesses want to get on line but see cost as a barrier? Linux is free
or low cost with support and saves on MS Licencing

Can anyone add some figures to this?

2. Another barrier is (or possibly is) skills shortage,

Again can anyone respond to this?

3. Schools would also benefit, proxy, web, file, mail servers again can
any one add to this, or give some examples?

How big a market do you think they would have in the South West?

I am not sure if I can convince them myself. If there is a potential market
then they may hold a conference or some sort of small expo here. I have
also suggested they hold one big conference in London then smaller ones, as

1. Who will travel up to London and pay around £50 a night accomodation when
you can stay in Torbay for around £15+

2. The same goes for people in Manchester, Newcastle, and other areas.
Go to your customers and don't expect them to come to you.

What you you think?

  Thanks for any help.
