if the psu is cheap enough most of them are just a direct swap , you
may be lucky and the person selling a recon or used one will be local
and i am sure he fit at reasonable price i would if i was selling
one...

It depends what you mean by 'died'. Does the power sound like it comes
on? Any lights? Does the screen come on at all? Was it on and suddenly stop
working?

Our 4 year old 32" Panasonic TV just died and I was wondering if its
worth prising it apart to see if anything can be scavenged (or indeed
convert it to a monitor - the screens seems OK). Anyone tried this of late?

For a week or two it wouldnt switch on in the morning from standby - you
had to switch it off and back on. Then it would start ok and then turn
itself off and sit there with a flashing green LED (the one that goes red on
standby) for about 5 minutes then go black and then start flashing again.
I've googled it but no luck. Search for parts drew an 'out of stock' even
though its only 4 years old.

Consumer driven world.. they want you to send it back for repair or buy a
new one, so they don't make parts available, or decided it's too old (yes I
know!) and discontinued spares. It does sound as if the PSU slowly died and
then finally gave up.

There, alas, isn't a local repair cafe and I cant find a power supply from someone who will give any kind of guarantee and its too large to store while I do so its off to the 'recycling' centre

Thanks for all your helps
