Well designed equipment either has settings for battery type, or allows
the insertion of an extra cell when using rechargeable batteries. It's
been a long, long time since I've seen the latter (usually by having to
insert a dummy cell when using 1.5V cells).
More often than not, bean-counters win out, and we get gear that won't
work properly, or for very long, when using rechargeables.
