Recent mint CDs come with compiz enabled on compatible hardware as default. So boot up eg mint 7, and spin that cube!
I'm not sure if it's me but I kinda get bored with the cube, if I do have desktop effects enabled (generally I don't) then I tend not to turn the cube on.  You'd think by now there'd be something a little more exciting. :-P

Well, you could make it rain on the desktop or draw fire with the mouse, but thats more kinda useless eyecandy then functional eyecandy which is how I class the cube. Besides, its impressive if you've never seen it before.

Sliding slightly off topic, i read in a forum archive it is possible to turn that rain effect into a screensaver, but the person linked to a dead webpage, i dont know if anyone here ever figured that one out? Been looking for a screenie like that since i moved from win98 way back when ....
