[LUG] Lighthouse and Exwick was Re: Ubuntu Hour in the UK

Quoting Paul Sutton <zleap@xxxxxxxxx>:

Sounds good, I know you are busy we need to get moving on the light
house front, i need to try and catch up with our neighbours landlord to
ask about the kitchen worktop they could use, I then need to get it
down there, tyrone was meant to e-mail me but doesn't seem to have done
so yet,

on that if anyone has any old kitchen work top handy and don't mind
donating it to the lighthouse for the internet cafe, please let me know.

I'll keep an ear out although I don't know of anyone having a kitchen refit at the moment. If not kitchen worktop, maybe some MDF cut to size might be suitable. (Although don't quote me on that, I don't do DIY).

As soon as their internet cafe is up and running properly and the kit
tested they will be go for a ubuntu based internet cafe.

We also need a server and the rest of the kit though.

As far as I know at the moment they need a server (I believe they are buying a new Dell one), monitors (again I believe they are buying new LCD screens), network cable (and depending how neat they want it, network sockets and plates for them to go in, and maybe a patch panel for patching at the other end), network patch cables and a gigabit switch (at a pinch I think they could get away with an 8 port switch at the moment). Unfortanately it's the sort of stuff that generally doesn't get given away free.

It also seems they ave having issues getting people to PAT test the
equipment, people say they will do it, then don't so if anyone can help
that would be really helpful.

I know someone who is an sparky, although I dare say he'd charge. I could drop him an e-mail to find out anyway. Wasn't there someone else on the list who I believe worked at Torquay Community College (appologies, I can't remember your name!) who could do PAT testing, but if I remember correctly we needed to get the kit to him.

What is the situation with regard to Exwick, seems things up there are
rather slow moving, :(

It's just a case of finding time to get over there and get things done. Looks like it'll be Febuary at the earliest now.

I guess its all down to time or lack thereof.

Yep, I'm not sure about anyone else but this contract I'm doing means I'm out from 7am until 7pm at the moment, with only my weekends free to catch up with anything else.

Once your other half is sorted out with event planning perhaps she can
help do stuff like phone round / visit, etc.

Possibly, she'll need to make contacts and find out what venues there are in the area as she's going to be a Wedding Consultant, but that doesn't stop her finding out about other venues (part of the course she is doing does cover general event planning).
