So, using Startup-Manager, in the first tab, boot options>default operating system>opening the menu shows all the items in my menu.lst - implying they should show up when I first boot. There is no option I can see to edit the list. I could set XP as the default, hoping I can also select back once I have it!!!! What do you think I should do? (I just rebooted and the XP option did not appear - just a check). Interesting that Ther have been all sorts of instabilities in 8.04 and lots of updates. I had lost wireless and could only gewt it back by manually putting in 198.162.1.1 as the default gateway. The screen rightness went down greatly and I could find no way to restore it even on Windows. My daughter used it just the once, with a dvd in Linux and it came back - simultaneously losing XP.
