All the time I've been using email with any provider (except AOL or
compuserve) I've used POP & SMTP.

Using gmail or sky email it's no different.
When accessed with pop or smtp, both supporting ssl (and also IMAP)
it behaves no different to any other pop/email system to the end user.

I have rules to sort out all my email on evolution & outlook if using
windows.

I only use the web interface to check the spam folder as the filtering
isn't always brilliant. Even so there is an option to mark mail thats
been put in the spam box as not spam so it goes straight to the inbox to
be downloaded.

I very rarely these days get spam downloaded to the actual PC. And after
checking there is an option to empty it in one go.
I hate the web interface for genral email, sending receiving etc. but I
can't see how its any different to any other email service when used
with a proper email client.
