Thanks for the quick reply! I'll go offline, reboot in linux (my HSP modem is not supported by the kernel :-( Sigh) and check whether I have the egcs packages installes. RPM'ing gcc told me I had to upgrade binutils and cpp which I duly did but .... I'll get there!
