Re: [LUG] Freenode (and matrix bridge) murdered by bot

If the freenodecom bot was run by the new ownership - I presume it must have been - then it's a wildly provocative annoyance on their part. It's been wide-ranging and affected significant channels.

A can see no reason to feel sympathetic toward them which is sad because freenode was a major component of the web at one stage.

I'll follow the channel where I'm led but I'm deleting my auto-login for the time being.

Hi all,

The freenode IRC room has been closed by a freenode bot. Looks like it
thought that #dcglug wasn't a FOSS/Open source related channel and
booted us to ##dcglug. Because of the way the room was bridged on the
matrix side (the freenode room was owned and operated by the bridge),
it's effectively killed the freenode matrix room as well (it's now
read-only).

The liberachat room, and the matrix-native room are still up so I guess
go there?

matrix: #dcglug:fossgalaxy.com (/join <roomid> if you can't see it in
the room directory)
liberachat #dcglug

If someone wants to bridge to the ## freenode room via matrix.org they
can do it in the integrations manager (they'll need to be a freenode
room op).
I guess that someone could also try to -bonk the freenode operators on
the head- ask for the room to be reinstated on the freenode side?

Looks like gentoo(!) was caught up in the problems as well
