Re: [LUG] Slides to prints

Hi,

I keep finding slides my late father did stretching back to the '70s, and borrowed a friend's stand alone slide copier.

One issue to be wary of with old slides; the mounts are varying thicknesses. As a result the alignment of some scans is questionable as they had to be forced through. You're better off with a flatbed scanner and a template to hold the slides in place.

  • No mount thickness problems - all perfectly aligned.
  • Faster - multiple slides in each pass.
  • Better quality - stand alone scanners are typically lower resolution; the slides are often degrading so you want to retain as much of the remaining quality as possible.

Some good prices on Ebay - depending on volume of slides it might be cheaper to buy second-hand than hire.

Kind regards,

Julian

Hello Neil,

Ideally I would like to save them as, say, JPEG's on to my computer.
Have you looked into the possibility of hiring a scanner, rather than
buying one?
