[LUG] Xubuntu, Firefox, CPU and memory use...

Ok,

Another pain in the ahh question for you folk...
I seem to be getting a lot of high cpu use and memory use whilst using Firefox which is triggering the fans on my laptop. So I wondered if a) there is an equivalent to what I remember in the distant past on Windoze was ZONE ALARM which flagged internet/network use and asked if you required to block it? (so I can decide what goes in/out) and b) (yawn) suggestions for a functional, user friendly browser that doesn't munch cpu and memory and still will still allow easy access to things like online banking, but allow me to bock ads, tracking etc.

Specs for my laptop are... (PC Specialists build)
Intel® Core™ i5 Quad Core Processor 7300HQ (2.5GHz, 3.5GHz Turbo)
Memory (RAM) 4GB Corsair 2400MHz SODIMM DDR4 (1 x 4GB)
INTEL® HD GRAPHICS 610/620/630 (CPU Dependant) - 1.7GB Max DDR4 Video RAM - DirectX® 12

Thought this was a bit much to on occasion shut down due to what I assume is an overheat due to cpu use...

Any thoughts on these multiple thing woudl help either panic me or set my mind at ease...

Thanks

Anthony
