Noting that you have no strong feelings either way WRT PGP - 
It does serve a purpose;  Identity verification.  In this day and age,
where identity theft is an ever-present danger, taking steps to avoid
such theft is a Good Thingâ, IMO.

Obviously (I hope), using HTML in email only makes it easier to disguise
malicious intent.

One of the most crass things I've seen is a 50k (or more) image
attachment to show a requester that read "An error has occurred" (or
something equally short), needing fewer than 50 bytes in text to
explain.  It probably took longer to take the screenshot and attach it
to an email than it would have taken to type in the text.  Another
stupid thing is the use of a 20k (or more) image for setting a background
colour in HTML mails to grey.

People that do such things make it into my killfile pretty quick.
